当地政治 | 1%选票的挑战
前年 Brad Raffensperger 选佐州 house representative,当时5人初选,Brad 以1%也就是26票的差距居第二位,经过华人一个月的努力及帮忙,终于赢了最后选举。
记得开票当天早上,和肖宇通了电话,才知道连市长都支持对方。我回说,还好我不住那,否则吓也吓死,早打退堂鼓了。一想要是赢了,那对华人而言,岂不特别有意义及令人兴奋,瞬间激起了斗志,于是我每小时和 Brad 报华人投票数,最后 Brad 赢得了胜利,赢的票数和我们报的数非常接近,明显华人的票起了致胜的关键作用。
这次第六区联邦议员 Tom Price 入阁,有18位候选人参选,候补他的位子,民主党一位 Ossoff 43%遥遥领先,其余是共和党参选人。其中最值得关注的是 Karen Handel 和 Bob Gray 民调分别是15%及14%,这1%的差距,使得原本华人在国会选举中原本不足轻重,忽然变得举足轻重,甚至能让 Bob Gray 有机会进入复选 Runoff 的可能性。
我认识 Bob Gray 有将近二年了,当初 Brad 选举也是 Bob 的建议,经过今年十一月要选 Duluth 市议员曾超汉 Louis Tseng,找到咱们华人的。后来北堂停车埸 re-zoning ,五位市议员,Bob 是唯一积极表示愿意支持,并给建议,使得拖了十年的案子,终于通过。此外这一年 Bob 也积极拜会中文学校,华人教会,新年春宴及园游会,甚至鱼协年会。可见他对华人的重视。
如果华人这次选举初选,分别投了前二名,即使赢了,当选人也不一定认为华人票有何重要性。但如果咱们让前二名都是华人认识的人,那么将来侨界出了事,咱们有人可帮忙解决。
所以我请大家投给亚城华人的好朋友 Bob Gray, 让他越过1%的差距,进第二轮决选,到时大家可继续支持 Bob Gray 或投 Jon Ossoff 皆可,那以后咱们华人的票,不但 Bob 会特别感激,其他候选人也都会重视和拜票了。
